James and Nancy (McKnight) Martin

James Martin was born in the northern part of Scotland in 1813. He came to America with his parents, James and Jennett (Urquhart) Martin, when he was nine years old and the family-consisting of six children-settled in Jefferson County, Ohio. James, who was educated in public schools while growing up in Scotland, was a contractor and superintendent of his farm. James was twice
married-to Nancy Elliot in 1838 (she died in 1873) and, in July 1874, to Nancy McKnight (who died in 1890 at age 72). The close proximity of Nancy McKnight's grave to those of Lavinia and David McKnight make it possible that she was a relative.

James and his family moved to Mt. Lebanon in 1874. The 1876 atlas of Allegheny County lists a James Martin living near Florence Avenue on Washington Road. James, who died in September 1890, was a ruling elder at MLUP Church and a prohibitionist.

We have yet to establish any relationship between James Martin and John Martin
