Daniel McCartney

Daniel McCartney enlisted as a private in the 5th Regiment of the Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery on August 23, 1864 for a one-year term. We do not know much about Daniel, but his enlistment papers say he was 30 years old when he enrolled and had been employed as a farmer. His eyes were grey, his hair was dark and he stood five-foot-seven inches tall. His pay was forwarded to the Temperanceville post office. The company muster roll lists him as absent on Oct. 31, 1864 with the note that he "was sent to the hospital at Alexandria" from Manassas Junction, Oct. 3(?), 1864." The November/December muster roll lists him as present.

We are not sure of his connection to the other McCartney's buried here.
